You may have heard us mention that, as part of our Iqoqwana Journey, we would like to develop emerging leaders in collections. Well, that is no longer a dream; it has become a reality. We are excited to inform you that we will be hosting our very first Emerging Leaders Workshop on 8-12 April 2024 in Cape Town. See details below.

Purpose

This is an immersive training opportunity to supplement the training offered during the Collections Management and Curation Course with personal development and leadership skills to support the implementation of the Collections Management Manual-related work in the institutions. In addition, it will be an opportunity to create communities of practice across institutions.

Benefits for participants

  • Participants will be awarded with Certificates of Completion
  • Personal development skills
  • Leadership development skills
  • Professional relationship and communication skills

Participant Selection Criteria

Young people who have shown passion for collections and leadership potential in their engagements with the NSCF and the Moderation team were identified by the Hub team in consultation with all institutional managers. Personalised and non-transferable invites were sent to the identified individuals with their managers’ permission.

Considering the needs of the NSCF network, the needs of institutions, and the needs of different kinds of collections, coupled with the development needs of individual young leaders, the following criteria were employed in selecting participants:

  • Young people, 40 years old and below
  • Showed interest in and commitment to collections work and leadership potential during collections assessments, moderations, and other engagements.
  • Active members of the community
  • Completing the collection management and curation course served as an added advantage.
