Museums across the globe are challenged by a combination of accelerated change and the effects of Covid-19. More than ever before, resilience and recovery in the museum sector will need leadership which is visionary and proactive.
Within this context, INTERCOM has launched the first global survey of museum leadership ever undertaken. This project has attracted widespread support with the ICOM network- it has been the successful recipient of a major SAREC grant and is negotiating to have leadership adopted as a major theme at the Prague 2022 Triennial Conference.
Global diversity is the goal of the survey project. Wave 1 of the survey (conducted in December 2020 and January 2021) resulted in nearly 300 completed surveys but an analysis of the data revealed that diversity is still to be achieved. The largest number of responses from that wave of the study were from North America and Europe. In this second Wave, we are seeking to target other regions- Asia, Africa, Central and South America, Russian speaking countries and Eastern Europe.
